Orpheus Chamber Orchestra with André Watts
A standard-bearer of innovation and artistic excellence, Orpheus Chamber Orchestra is one of the world’s foremost chamber orchestras. Founded in 1972, Orpheus has recorded 71 albums, including the Grammy® Award-winning Shadow Dances: Stravinsky Miniatures, and premiered over 40 commissioned works.

Orpheus is joined by superstar pianist André Watts, who burst upon the music world at 16, when Leonard Bernstein chose him to make his debut with the New York Philharmonic in their Young People’s Concerts, broadcast nationwide on CBS-TV. Much-honored, Watts has played before royalty in Europe and heads of government all over the world; was awarded the Avery Fisher Prize in 1988; and at age 26, was the youngest person ever to receive an Honorary Doctorate from Yale University. Watts brings his elegant luster to Mozart’s first great Piano Concerto No. 9, the “Jeunehomme.”

LIV ON: Olivia Newton-John, Beth Nielsen Chapman, & Amy Sky
Norton Center for the Arts – Newlin Hall, Danville KY

International superstar and multiple Grammy® Award winner Olivia Newton-John, Grammy®-nominee Beth Nielsen Chapman, and SOCAN Award winner Amy Sky have a gift for storytelling. Together, they share their individual and collaborative journey in a magical event where they perform 11 newly recorded songs from their new album, LIV ON. In this one of a kind performance, the audience will walk the path of joy, laughter, and inspiration, finding amazement at the kinship generated by the experience. In addition to performing songs from this new album, the trio will perform together on some of each other’s best-known songs. This inspiring new project grew out of the three artists’ personal experiences with loss and illness, which they all survived, to “LIV ON” and celebrate each day with a depth of gratitude.

Renewable Energy in Kentucky and Beyond
Every year, Centre College hosts a convocation related to campus sustainability and Centre’s commitment to mitigate climate change. This year we welcome Matthew Partymiller, the General Manager of Solar Energy Solutions (SES), the company that installed solar panels on Chowan during the 2017 summer. Partymiller has led the development of SES since its inception in 2006. He is primarily focused on project implementation and design. Since the inception of SES, Partymiller has installed renewable projects in all four corners of Kentucky and expanded SES into surrounding states. Partymiller has led the company in the design and installation of more than 300 projects, including installations of photovoltaic, solar thermal, and wind renewable energy. In this talk, Partymiller will discuss some of the challenges of renewable energy, from the technological to the political, explaining how Centre’s solar response to carbon emissions is part of a larger pattern here in Kentucky and around the world.

Diversity, Service & Leadership Weekend
Diversity, Service & Leadership Weekend
Campus Center – Ewen Room, Danville KY

The Admission Office invites senior high school students passionate about issues regarding race, ethnicity, religion, the LGBTQ community, class, and community service to attend this weekend of workshops. Our theme this year will be “Identity”; students planning to attend the weekend should expect to explore different facets of their own identity as well as learn from others participating in the weekend. Be ready to engage in conversation with our faculty, students, and each other! Students interested in the New Horizons Scholarship and Bonner Scholars Program are strongly encouraged to attend. We encourage students to arrive early on Friday in order to observe a class, interview with an admission representative, and meet with a professor. Students are also highly encouraged to stay Friday night and register for the Open House on Saturday. You can depart at your leisure on Saturday if not participating in the Open House. If participating in the Open House, students can leave after 3:30 p.m.
